Destination Services, one of the business units from Hotelbeds Group, has signed an agreement with GEOHolder in order to promote sustainable and environmental activities with its clients.
Destination Services and others business units from Hotelbeds Group: Intercruises and Pacific World will include in their portfolios the activities offered by GEOHolder in Mallorca, different destinations in the Mainland and in Italy.
GEOHolder Association corner-stones are tourism and sustainability.
GEOHolder offers two different activities to our visitors:
- Sponsor a Centennial Olive Tree in the Serra de Tramuntana, World Heritage Site by UNESCO, a Fig Tree or a Carob Tree in order to sustain the current environment and maintain productive grounds;
- Plant Olive Trees to ensure the environment continues to replenish.
Hotelbeds Group in joining with GEOHolder, proves that touristic companies are paying attention to current trends and the many environmental issues that the planet is faced with today.
Forests cover 31% of the land area on our planet. They produce oxygen and provide homes for people and wildlife. Over 1.6 billion people rely on benefits forests offer including food, fresh water, clothing, traditional medicine and shelter.
Forests play a critical role in mitigating climate change because they act as a carbon sink, soaking up carbon dioxide that would otherwise be in the atmosphere and contribute to ongoin changes in climate patterns. When forests grow, carbon is removed from the atmosphere and absorbed in wood, leaves and soil, because forests can absorb and store carbon over an extended period of time, they are considered carbon sinks. It is estimated that 15% of all greenhouse gas emission are the result of deforestation. Deforestation has been taken place at a pace of about 130.000km2 per year.
The goal of GEOHolder is to maintain the Trees that are in existence and to continue a reforestation effort in the years to come, therefore helping the environment for future generations.
